The Tire Charges section of Service Settings sets the three charges added under each tire on a service invoice or part invoice: Federal Excise Tax (FET), your state's State Tire Fee, and your shop's Disposal Fee. Each charge appears as its own row under the tire, follows the tire's quantity, and shows in the invoice totals.
This article is only about tire charges. To buy tires through PartsTech, see Ordering Parts from PartsTech on a Service Invoice or Purchase Order.

Before you start: mark your tire categories
Tire charges are only added to parts in a category marked as tires.
- Go to Settings > Parts > Part Categories and open the category your tires are in.
- Select an existing Tires category, if available. If one doesn't exist, click Add Part Category to create a new one and enter a name and description.
- Whether you're creating a new tire category or editing an existing one, make sure to check Mark Tires and select the applicable tire condition: New or Used.
- Afterwards, click on Save / Update Category.
You can also click Manage Categories at the top of Tire Charges located in Parts & Service Settings.
Set up Tire Charges
- Go to Settings > Service > Service Settings and scroll down to Tire Charges.
- Federal Excise Tax: there's nothing to enter. FET is charged by the vendor and varies by tire. Tick Taxable if you charge sales tax on it.
- State Tire Fee: this is your lot's state's fee. Leave it blank if your state doesn't charge one.
- Optionally change the Label, for example "California Tire Fee". The label prints in place of "State Tire Fee".
- Under Charged, choose Flat Rate and enter the Amount per tire, or choose Percentage and enter the Percentage of each tire's price. A percentage can have a Min Amount and Max Amount per tire.
- New Tires Only is ticked by default, so used tires aren't charged. Untick it if your state charges used tires too.
- Tick Taxable if the fee is taxed.
- Disposal Fee: A fee your shop charges customers for the removal and disposal of old tires when new ones are installed. Set the Label, choose when the fee is Charged, and enter the fee amount. Check Taxable if the fee is subject to sales tax in your state.
- Save the page.
If the State Tire Fee says "Add This Lot's Address In Setup To Set Its State Tire Fee," your lot has no address yet. The fee depends on the lot's state.
DeskManager Online charges what you enter. You're responsible for the amounts, taxability, and rules your state sets.
How charges appear on an invoice
When you add a tire, its charges appear as rows under it.
- To waive a Disposal Fee or State Tire Fee, click the trash icon, enter a Reason for the waiver, and click Waive Fee. The fee will be marked with a WAIVED badge. Hover over the badge to view the reason provided.
- To restore a waived fee, click the back arrow icon.
FET and the State Tire Fee are added to the invoice total. The Disposal Fee is included in the Environmental Fee.
When the State Tire Fee changes
A change to the State Tire Fee starts today. Tires already on invoices keep the rate they were charged. A paid invoice never changes. On an open invoice with no payments, a banner offers the new rate: click Update to the new rate, or Keep as is.
Changing a Taxable setting only affects tires added after the change.
When to contact support
