Why a Report Opens Already Filtered, and When Briefing Trends Disappear

Reports remember the filters you last used and reopen with them, and a link from Today's Briefing deliberately overrides that memory with a filter of its own. Separately, changing a briefing threshold removes the up-and-down comparison for a day. This article explains all three so none of them reads as a bug.

A report opens with filters you don't remember setting

Reports remember how you last left them. Your filters, sorting and column layout are kept for you personally and restored before the report runs, so it reopens the way you had it — there is no save step, and no message telling you it happened.

That is why a report can open filtered to one salesperson and last week: that is where you left it, possibly some time ago. It is personal to you, so a colleague opening the same report sees their own last setup, not yours.

To get back to the full picture, clear the filters — the report then runs unfiltered, and that becomes the state it remembers next time.

A briefing link opens the report with different filters

When you click through from Today's Briefing — for example from a card counting accounts past due — the link carries its own filter, and that filter deliberately takes precedence over the setup the report would otherwise have remembered for you. The filter panel opens too, so you can see what has been applied.

Your own saved filters have not been reset or lost. You asked for a specific slice by clicking a specific number, so you get that slice; open the report normally from the Reports page and your usual setup returns.

One useful side effect: because the filter travels in the link itself, the link is shareable and reloading the page shows the same set of records rather than reverting.

The up and down arrows disappeared after changing a threshold

Today's Briefing compares today's figures against the previous day. A threshold — for example how many days overdue counts as past due — is part of the definition of what is being counted, so changing it means today's number and yesterday's number were produced by two different rules.

Rather than show a comparison between two things that were counted differently, the briefing deliberately drops the comparison for a day. Your trend numbers are not broken and nothing needs resetting — the arrows return the following day, once there is a prior day counted under the same rule.

This is worth knowing before you tune thresholds repeatedly: each change costs a day of comparison, so it is better to settle on a number and leave it than to adjust it a little at a time across a week.
