Fixing Login Problems: No Lots Assigned, Invites and Password Resets

Our User Accounts article covers how to create a user. This article covers two account problems that regularly get reported as bugs: a new user who can't log in at all, and a password that stops working right after an admin sends an invite or reset.

• "I set up a brand new user, saved it, and now when they try to log in they get an error saying no lots are assigned. What did I miss?"
• "I just checked the box to email one of my employees a login invite so she can set her own password, but now she says her old password doesn't work anymore. Did I break something?"

Fixing "No lots assigned" at login

A brand-new user needs at least one lot/role checkbox checked on the Security tab of their user record. If none are checked, the user will be able to log in but land on a page reading "You do not have access rights to any Lots. Please contact your system administrator to give you the necessary access rights." with no lot to select and no way to continue.

To fix it: open the user in Setup > Organization > Users, go to the Security tab, and check at least one role checkbox under at least one lot's fieldset, then save.

What sending a login invite or password reset actually does

On a user's General tab, the button next to their email is either Invite User to Register (unverified email) or Reset Password (verified email). Clicking either one — and saving — immediately overwrites that user's password with a random value and resets their login security stamp. Their old password stops working right away, not just after they click the link in the email. The user must use the emailed link to set a new password before they can log in again.

Keep this in mind before clicking either button on an account that's actively in use — it isn't a "send them a reminder" action, it's an immediate credential reset.

When to contact support

• A user's Security tab shows at least one lot/role checked, but they still hit the "no lots assigned" error at login.
• A user clicked the emailed link from an invite or reset and it doesn't let them set a new password.
