Deals are complex, flexible, and oftentimes changed during the final negotiations. Sometimes a dealership may need to fix mistakes in a deal, edit a deal, or include new additions to a deal at the last minute. As long as it’s still pending, it’s easy to make the necessary changes.
But if the deal has already been marked as sold, it will need to be rolled back. Depending on the state of the deal, there are a few ways to unlock or “unsell” a deal that’s already been finalized.
How to “Unsell” a Deal
To unlock a sold deal, first navigate to the deal. When navigating to a closed deal, you’ll first arrive at the Accounting window. Click on the customer’s name in the top-left to access the deal itself.
Next, click on the Contract tab.
You have the option to Edit Contract or Unwind Contract. Each option is intended for a slightly different circumstance.
If payment has not been collected, click Edit Contract to return this deal to a Pending status. This will unlock the deal so changes can be made to the existing contract.
If an initial payment has been collected but the vehicle has not been taken off the lot, click Unwind Contract. This will reverse collected payments and also return the deal to a Pending status.
Keep in mind that any previously printed forms or contracts should be reprinted and resigned to reflect any changes made to the deal.
In situations where multiple payments have been collected and the customer has owned the vehicle for some time, please refer to our article on unwinding vehicles here: How to Unwind Deals
